Council Goals and Strategic Plans

Girl Scout Purpose

The Purpose of Girl Scouting is to inspire girls with the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service, so that they may become happy and resourceful citizens.

Girl Scouts of Swift Water Organizational Vision

  • From their first encounter with Girl Scouts, girls enjoy the fun, friendship and power of girls together.
  • In partnership with caring, committed adults, girls develop the strength, confidence, motivation, leadership and skills to succeed for a lifetime.
  • We are committed to providing the opportunity for every girl to be a Girl Scout
  • All members embrace the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law as touchstones for life decisions.
  • We are a forward-thinking and well-managed organization, taking the risks necessary to fulfill the Girl Scout Promise.
  • We are the first choice for girls and those who care about girls.

Goals 2004 - 2009

  1. Provide a cutting-edge and diversified Girl Scout program that builds girls of courage, confidence, and character.
  2. Promote the Girl Scouts of Swift Water Council so as to be recognizedl as the leading experts on building girls of confidence, courage and character.
  3. Develop and maintain the resources necessary to achieve our vision.
  4. Design innovative systems and implement flexible strategies to attract, retain and effectively utilize high caliber and diverse adult members.
  5. Develop and implement a merger with the Girl Scout Council of Vermont.

Technology Strategic Plan 2004 - 2007

  1. The Council information systems architecture provides centralized functionality with distributed communication to ensure:
    • Safety of information, which requires a combination of hardware at communications interfaces, regularly updated network and communication software and security policies for all staff.
    • That information will be stored on limited access areas, staff intranet and/or public web as appropriate for its content and intended use.
  2. Technology disaster recovery capabilities and procedures will be developed and maintained to support an overall Council business continuity plan.
  3. A standardized desktop configuration will allow for cross-training of applications, document sharing and focused support. A regular desktop refresh plan of 25% will be implemented to allow a single operating system on all desktops and to minimize the number of versions of other software.
  4. GEMMA is the single repository of membership information that other customized databases can be built around.
    • Year one – prioritize creation of critical reports that will be needed ASAP for membership recruitment/retention and train staff
    • Expand use to support program, camp, and training registration.
  5. Internet capabilities will be used to provide services for our membership and council communications to the community in a 24/7 environment. This will include, but not be limited to:
    • E-commerce
    • E-learning
    • Funding
    • Self-service volunteer support area
    • Interactive community area
  6. Document management is critical as council resources are nearing maximum capacity and the cost of storage increases. An archiving system will maintain only records that are required for historical and legal purposes.
