Camp Farnsworth Thetford, VT

Camp Farnsworth, our largest summer resident camp, is located in Thetford, VT. It has a capacity of about 350. There are 14 units spread throughout the property. Each unit has platform tents, adirondack shelters or cabins (without electricity). Most units have a capacity of 24-35. Almost every unit has a unit house for shelter. Bathroom facilities include flush toilets, latrines and composting toilets (CTS). The shower house is centrally located. The Hatt Box, a winterized facility, is available year-round for groups of up to 12. Camp facilities include: dining hall which seats 350, recreation hall with stage (Keushk), large playing fields, art building and 40-acre lake for swimming and boating.

NOTE: All living units have beds and mattresses, outdoor firepits and picnic tables.

USE OF THE KITCHEN AND DINING HALL

  1. The kitchen and dining hall must be rented together (see prices below).
  2. Prior arrangements must be made with Jessica x 177 to use kitchen equipment and dishes. You must receive instructions before use.
  3. There is a large fireplace that is useable. It will not heat the space.
  4. The dining hall is handicapped accessible.

SWIMMING AND BOATING

Camp Farnsworth surrounds 40 acre Lake Abenaki. There is a large dock area for swimming and boating. The following rules must be followed by all groups who use the lake.

  1. You must have a lifeguard for every 25 swimmers and every 6 boats. The lifeguard or someone else must have current First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. The lifeguard must have current lifeguard certification from American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America or the YMCA. There must be one adult watcher for every 10 people in the water. The lifeguard must be 18 or older.
  2. To swim and boat prior arrangements must be made with Jessica x 177. You will receive special swimming and boating information. Upon request, rescue equipment and boats might be available.
  3. The lifeguard must have a rescue tube and develop a whistle safety system (1 blast attention, 2 blasts buddy check, 3 blasts exit the water immediately). For boating there must be a visual and auditory system for signaling boaters in case of an emergency.
  4. Swimming must be in the designated roped off area.
  5. Lifeguard should check the swimming areas for hazards before girls enter the water.
  6. Life Jackets must be worn by all boaters, at all times.
  7. You must supply a first aid kit with a pocket mask that must be at the swimming/boating area.

SPECIAL INFORMATION

  1. Drinking water available in all locations May 15 to October 1 and in the Hatt Box year-round.
  2. Tent units available May 15 to October 1.
  3. Fire permit will be secured by caretaker for the season.

Hood Museum at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH - Recognized by the American Association of Museums as "a national model," the Hood Museum of Art is one of the oldest and largest college museums in the country.

Billings Farm Museum - a living museum of Vermont's rural past, as well as a working dairy farm.

Hanover, NH Chamber of Commerce Site - Hanover is a short 15 minutes from camp. See what's happening in the region with links to the cities of Lebanon, Hartford and Norwich.
