Camp Kettleford Bedford, NH

Camp Kettleford is located in Bedford, NH. The camp is situated on 30 acres of pine forest with 2 fields and a small pond. There is a winterized lodge, pavilion, ten units (each with one adirondack shelter, fire pit and picnic table), and a large campfire circle with bleacher seating. Waterfront activities may be done only with a lifeguard. There are two composting toilet (CTS) bathroom buildings and year-round water is available in the lodge.

FACILITIES

LODGE
Sleeps 16 people on mattresses and has a kitchen with sink, electric stoves,microwave and refrigerators. The lodge has electricity and is heated with a wood stove (wood provided).

SUPPLIES AVAILABLE:
Cooking: pots, pans, utensils, plates, bowls, cups and silverware.
Cleaning: gloves, sanitizer, sponges, cleanser, Pinesol, garbage bags, garbage cans, brooms, mops, dust pans, dishwashing liquid, buckets, spray bottle , sandpaper, windshield washer fluid, toilet brush and toilet paper.

Adirondack Shelters & Composting Toilets
There are 10 units, each with one screened Adirondack shelter, fire pits and picnic tables. Each shelter can accommodate 10-12 Brownies or 5-10 older girls.

Pavilion
There is one pavilion that has electric lights, picnic tables and a fireplace. Please do not use water to put out fire - as it cracks the tiles.

SWIMMING AND BOATING

Kettleford is located on Sebbins Pond. There is a small swimming and boating area. Any groups using the pond for activities must be able to follow the rules below.

  1. You must have a lifeguard for every 25 swimmers and every 6 boats. The lifeguard or someone else must have current First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer. The lifeguard must have current lifeguard certification from American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America or the YMCA. There must be one adult watcher for every 10 people in the water. The lifeguard must be over 18.
  2. To swim and boat prior arrangements must be made with Jessica x 177. You will receive special swimming and boating information. Upon request, rescue equipment and boats might be available.
  3. The lifeguard must have a rescue tube and develop a whistle safety system. (1 blast attention, 2 blasts buddy check, 3 blasts exit the water immediately). For boating there must be a visual and auditory system for signaling boaters in case of an emergency.
  4. Swimming must be in the designated roped off area.
  5. Lifeguard should check the swimming areas for hazards before girls enter the water.
  6. An emergency phone is located at the lodge.
  7. Life Jackets must be worn by all boaters, at all times.
  8. You must supply a first aid kit with a pocket mask that must be at the swimming/boating area.

SPECIAL INFORMATION

  1. The bathrooms are Composting Toilets (CTS). They are environmentally friendly and depend on natural processes.
  2. Drinking water is available in lodge and at bathrooms from May 15 - October 1.
  3. Caretaker will secure fire permit for the season.
  4. No tents should be pitched in the field.

SEE Museum - Science Enrichment Encounter in Manchester

Charmingfare Farm - Visit the largest collection of Agricultural Animals and North American Wildlife in NH. Home to over 200 animals consisting of 30 species. Encounter wolves, cougars, wolverines, lynx, fisher, reindeer, river otters and more. Hayrides and sleigh rides during the holidays.

Amoskeag Fishways - An environmental education center in the heart of Manchester, NH. Our year round learning center is on the Merrimack River next to the Amoskeag Falls Hydro Station. The fish ladder season is late April through October for scientific fish studies. We will offer special " Fish Ladder Tours" during this time along with our award winning school programs, public programs for all ages and special events.

Stonyfield Farm Yogurt Plant - Travel 15 minutes to Londonderry and take a tour to see how this yummy, local yogurt is made.

Tri-Town Ice Arena - new in 1998, this Hooksett facility boasts 2 NHL size ice rinks and is the official training facility of the Manchester Monarchs. Public Skating is available daily, year-round. Check the schedule on the web site.
