Seawood Portsmouth, NH
Camp Seawood is located in Portsmouth,NH, not far from Route 101
and 1A. There are 38 acres of forest and wetlands. Thaxter Shelter
and Ranger's Roost are winterized lodges. Thaxter is a one-story
building which sleeps 16, and is heated with a wood stove. Ranger's
Roost is a two-story building which can accommodate 16 and is heated
with an oil furnace. There are seven units, each with a screened
adirondack shelter, picnic table and two firepits. The units are
serviced by latrines, a central fire circle with bleacher seating
and a pavilion. One unit, Sandpiper, is handicapped accessible.
FACILITIES
Winterized Lodges:
Camp Seawood has two lodges, Thaxter and Ranger's Roost
(pictured above). Thaxter lodge has bunk beds for 16, a kitchen
(with electric stove and refrigerator), fireplace, wood cook stove,
running water and is heated with a propane furnace. Ranger's Roost
sleeps 16 on mattresses in the upstairs carpeted sleeping loft.
There is a full kitchen, table and chairs, TV/VCR, showers and flush
toilets. The bathroom in Ranger's Roost is also used by those
staying in Thaxter Lodge.
Camping facilities:
Camp Seawood has 7 units, each with a large screened Adirondack
shelter, picnic tables and fire pits. Shelters sleep 10-12 Brownie
Girl Scouts or 5-10 older girls. There are central pit latrines.
Drinking water is available May 15 - October 1. There is ample space
in each unit area to pitch tents that you may bring. A pavilion
with electricity may be rented separately. Sandpiper is a barrier-free
unit and is wheelchair accessible.
SPECIAL INFORMATION
- Drinking water is available at Ranger's Roost and Thaxter year-round
and at the latrines from
May 15- October 1. From October 1 - May 15 drinking water is available
at frost faucet outside Thaxter.
- The caretaker will secure a fire permit for the season. Call
number provided to check on current fire conditions before you
go.
- Do not use water to put out fires in wood stove or brick fireplaces
- it cracks them.
- Wood is provided for wood cook stove in a pile beside Thaxter
- please do not use for campfires (we'll run out).
- The bathroom in the Ranger's Roost is available for use by both
those staying in the Roost and in Thaxter.
- If staying in Thaxter please use outside entrance to the bathroom
and be considerate of group staying in the Roost by being quiet.
