Cookie Sale Program — Gift
of Caring
How
it Works:
- Before the cookie
program begins, each troop decides which organization(s) in their
community they would like to visit and deliver boxes of donated
Girl Scout cookies to (Senior Centers, Women &
Children Shelters, local food pantries, etc).
- While order taking,
Girl Scouts ask their customers if they would like to purchase
an additional box of
cookies as a gift for that troop’s chosen organization.
She explains that this is a Girl Scout Community
Service Project. This is a great way for customers who, due to
dietary or other reasons, do not wish to have a box of cookies,
but would still like to make their donation to the Girl Scout.
In this case, the customer gets the added satisfaction of having
helped out two organizations at once!
- A column is located
on the order card for the “Gift of Caring” boxes.
Customers need not be specific as to variety of donated cookie(s).
Each customer may write in the number of boxes she/he wishes to
purchase for donation in this column next to their own order.
- Each troop will add
the number of “Gift of Caring” boxes and convert it
into their choice of varieties. For example, when placing the
troop cookie order, you must round up to next number divisible
by 12, so as to be ordering in whole cases. This will create extras,
and those extras can then be used as the “Gift of Caring”
boxes. If more are needed, they can be signed out of a Cookie
Cupboard or transferred from another troop. When the troop receives
their cookies, all “Gift of Caring” boxes should then
be separated from the customer orders.
- Girls collect the
money for customer orders and “Gift of Caring” cookies
at the time of delivery.
Troops can also promote their “Gift of Caring” project
at booth sales.
- Each troop will then
deliver the “Gift of Caring” cookies to their chosen
organization, and hopefully stay for a visit.
- An optional Gift
of Caring patch is available for $1.25 each.
Is
your troop having a hard time deciding who to donate the cookies
to??
Here are two GREAT ideas!!
This year, recognize
your “Hometown Heroes!!” Men and women working in your
community as Firefighters, EMTs, Police Officers, etc. We are sure
they’d love to see a smiling Girl Scout face and receive some
cookies from a local troop!
Or
Participate in the 7th Annual Swift Water Council Operation Cookie
Project. Last year, troops in Swift Water with the public’s
help, donated over 13,000 boxes for Operation Cookie to the NH Air
National Guard. Bring the cookies to the Service Center (in full
cases, no later than April 1, 2008) and we’ll take care of
the rest! Encourage your girls to make cards and letters of support
to our servicemen and women overseas. We know they’re always
appreciated.
If your troop participates
in either of these, they will also be sent an official Certificate
of Achievement from the Girl Scouts of Swift Water Council for their
troop scrapbook!
