Juliette Low Friendship Fund Challenged
Girl Scouts of United States has challenged all councils to make a donation of 50 cents per member to the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund (JLWFF) by June 30, 2008 . In 2006 the Girl Scouts of Swift Water donated 17 cents per girl equaling $2384.40; though in 2003 we donated 29 cents per girl equaling $4692.50. The Juliette Low World Friendship Fund (JLWFF) was started in 1927, the year that Juliette Low died of breast cancer. Juliette believed that by spreading goodwill and friendship among children from different nations, they could bring about world peace. The JLWFF supports programs and international friendships. It sends some of the money to WAGGGS and the remainder goes to Girl Scouts going on destinations and to bring some Girl Guides/Girl Scouts from WAGGGS countries to the USA to attend some destinations. Through the years, many Swift Water Girl Scouts have benefited from the JLWFF.

A Good Read
"The Glacier Chronicles: Bear Angst, B.O. and Cell Phone Withdrawal,” by POGO Backpackers, is a humorous, sometimes-introspective look at seven girls’ backpack trip in Glacier National Park last summer. The book is based on entries from the girls’ journals. It includes illustrations from their journals as well as photographs taken on the trip. It is a by-girls, for-girls project.
The 32-page full-color paperback sells for $16.99. Proceeds will help fund the girls’ backpacking trip to Scotland this summer. The POGO Backpackers is an interest group of Teen Girl Scouts from Virginia’s Prince William and Faquier counties. For more information click here.
