New Hampshire State Senate Page
Are you in high school? Are you interested in learning more about how the New Hampshire State Senate works? Then here is an opportunity for you. You can be a Senate page for a day. As a Senate page, students will be asked to assist the Sergeant-at-Arms and the Senate Clerk’s office with various duties pertaining to Senate session. Some of their official duties include: distributing important legislative documents (such as ‘floor amendments’), making photocopies of pending legislation, and even bringing senators lunch from the State House cafeteria. The program requires a one-day commitment and transportation to Concord, NH.
While participating in the Senate Page Program for the day, students will be participating in the actual Senate’s session. They will be witnessing the New Hampshire State Legislature ‘making the laws’. Senate pages will get to meet and interact with actual state senators as well as the staff of the N.H. State Senate. The program offers a unique glance into the internal workings of state government and in doing so, seeks to foster a spirit of civic engagement that will remain with participating students into adulthood. As part of their experience, students will be given a brief tour of the New Hampshire State House; a Senatorial Certificate of Appreciation signed by the senate president and their local senator; a copy of the New Hampshire Constitution; as well as a brochure on “How a Bill Becomes a Law” and the “History of the New Hampshire Senate.”
