Leadership Couses

Orientation
For all volunteers, Orientation covers the Girl Scout mission, vision & goals, Council policies, guidelines, resources & contacts. Orientation is available from your Service Unit Manager or Regional office.
Time Commitment: 1 hour
Prerequisite: none
Fee: There is no fee for this course.

Daisy Doings
For leaders planning to work with girls age 5-6, Daisy Doings will cover the essentials of being a Girl Scout leader and introduce participants to program activities specific for kindergarten age girls. If you change age levels you must take EOL I & II
Time Commitment: 3 hours

: Orientation to Girl Scouting

Essentials of Leadership I (EOL 1)
For all future leaders, Essentials of Leadership I covers the roles and responsibilities of the Girl Scout leader, methods of obtaining parent and guardian support, important elements of group meetings, girl and adult planning, finances, service projects, how to evaluate with girls and crisis and risk management. To work with girls, you will need to complete EOL II as well.
Time Commitment: 3 hours
Prerequisite: Orientation to Girl Scouting

EOL II Brownie Age Level (EOL 2 Brownie)
For leaders planning to work with girls age 6-8, this course covers materials and activities specific to girls in grades 1-3.

EOL II Junior Age Level (EOL 2 Junior)
For leaders planning to work with girls age 8-11, this course covers materials and activities specific to girls in grades 3-6.

EOL II Older Girl Age Level (EOL 2 Older Girl)
For leaders planning to work with girls age 11-17, this course covers materials and activities specific to girls in grades 6-12.

Outdoor Living Skills

Basic Outdoor Living Skills (BOLS)
For people who plan to take girls hiking, camping or cooking outdoors, this course will train participants in safely introducing girls to hiking, fire building, meal preparation, beginning safety, knot tying, map and compass reading, the natural environment and ecology. This course also provides experiences in shelters, overnights, first aid, ropes, and an understanding of the ecosystem. A Basic Outdoor Living Skills patch is available to participants who successfully complete the course.
Time Commitment: 4hours classroom plus an overnight trip
Prerequisite:
Orientation to Girl Scouting available from your Service Unit Manager or your Regional Office.
Fee: There is a $12.00 fee for the text. Additional cost for food during the overnight is determined at the preplan meeting.

Advanced Outdoor Living Skills (AOLS)
For people who plan to take girls winter or wilderness camping. This course covers leading trips of two or more nights where the group may be generally away from immediate emergency help. Skills taught will include: how to teach children not to get lost, sanitation, first aid, camp stoves, tools & knots, map & compass, and minimum impact camping. An Advanced Outdoor Living Skills patch is available for $2.00 to participants who successfully complete the course.
Time Commitment: 5 hours classroom plus a two night overnight trip
Prerequisite
: Basic Outdoor Living Skills or Outdoor Fun & Outdoor Living
Fee: cost for food during the overnight is determined at the preplan meeting

First Aid and CPR

American Red Cross Adult CPR (ARC Adult CPR)
For registered Girl Scout adults who will act as a group/troop first aider in situations where all girls are over age 8.This training covers Adult CPR only. Adults intending to act as group/troop first aiders must also obtain current certification in first aid which will not be covered in this training. CPR certification is valid for 1 year. A course textbook may be borrowed during the course, or purchased for $15.00. A First Aid patch is available for $2.00 to participants who successfully complete the course.
Time Commitment: 3.5 hours
Prerequisite: must be registered Girl Scout adult volunteer
Fee: $10.00

American Red Cross Adult and Child CPR (ARC A & C CPR)
For registered Girl Scout adults who will act as a group/troop first aider at any age level. This training covers Adult and Child CPR. Adults intending to act as group/troop first aiders must also obtain current certification in first aid which will not be covered in this training. CPR certification is valid for 1 year. A course textbook may be borrowed during the course, or purchased for $15.00. A First Aid patch is available for $2.00 to participants who successfully complete the course.

American Red Cross First Aid (ARC FA)
For registered Girl Scout adults, this training covers the basics of first aid. Additional CPR training will be required for adults to act as group/troop first aider. First aid certification is valid for 3 years. A course textbook may be borrowed during courses, or purchased for $15.00. A First Aid patch is available for $2.00 to participants who successfully complete the course.
Time Commitment: 4 hours

American Red Cross CPR Review (ARC CPR Review)
For people currently certified in ARC Adult, Infant & Child CPR who would like to renew their certification and stay current. Review courses will have a short review session followed by the written and practical exams. CPR re-certification is valid for 1 year.
Time Commitment: 4 hours
Prerequisite: current certification in ARC CPR. Must be registered Girl Scout adult volunteer
Fee: $10.00

American Red Cross CPR Challenge (ARC CPR Challenge)
For people currently certified in ARC Adult, Infant & Child CPR who are confident in their skills and who would like to renew their certification and stay current. Challenge courses will be a testing situation only. CPR re-certification is valid for 1 year.
Time Commitment: 1 hour
Prerequisite: current certification in ARC CPR . Must be registered Girl Scout adult volunteer
Fee: $10.00

American Red Cross CPR Instructor Course
For people currently certified in ARC CPR who would like to become Authorized American Red Cross instructors of First Aid & CPR and who plan to train ARC First Aid & CPR for the Council. $60.00 financial aid available to all who commit to providing a minimum of four First Aid & CPR courses for Girl Scout volunteers over the next two years.
Time Commitment: 30 hours
Prerequisite: Current certification in ARC First Aid and Adult, Infant & Child CPR. Must be registered Girl Scout adult volunteer
Fee: $130

AHA Pediatric First Aid with Adult, Child & Infant CPR
This course will cover Pediatric First Aid as well as Adult, Child CPR & AED and Infant CPR for registered Girl Scout adults who will act as a group/troop first aider. AHA First Aid and CPR certification is valid for 2 years. Course textbook is included in the cost of the course.
Prerequisite: must be registered Girl Scout adult volunteer
Fee: $15.00

This course covers Adult and Child CPR & AED as well as Infant CPR. Adults intending to act as group/troop first aiders must also obtain current certification in first aid which will not be covered in this training. AHA CPR certification is valid for 2 years.
