What is Bridging?
A process designed to introduce girls to activities from the next age level, which helps them in advance to the new age level. Girls earn a bridging patch presented to them at a Bridging Ceremony.
When do girls Bridge?
- Daisies bridge in the spring of Kindergarten.
- Brownies bridge in the spring of their 3rd grade year.
- Juniors bridge in the spring of their 6th grade year.
- Cadettes bridge in the spring of their 9th grade year.
- Senior bridge in the spring of their 12th grade year.
When do Bridging Ceremonies take place?
Bridging Ceremonies usually take place during the spring or early summer. Speak to your local Service Unit to find out if they do a community Bridging Ceremony.

How do we earn the Bridging Award?
Daisies bridging to Brownie Girl Scouts
To prepare for the next level, Daisy Girl Scouts will need to learn about Brownie Girl Scouting. Bridging activities allow girls to sample some of what the next age group does. Daisies will need to pick at least one activity from each of the four steps to Brownie Girl Scouting to learn about Brownie Girl Scouts. To find activities see pages 62-64 in your Daisy Leaders Guide.
1. Find out about Brownie Girl Scouts.
2. Complete a Brownie Girl Scout activity.
3. Do something with a Brownie Girl Scout or a Brownie Girl Scout troop or group.
4. Help plan your bridging ceremony.
Brownies bridging to Juniors
Every Brownie Girl Scout receives her wings at the end of her Brownie Girl Scout years. Some girls also chose to earn their Bridge to Junior Girl Scouts rainbow. Brownies will need to pick at least one activity from each of the six steps to Junior Girl Scouting to learn what is at the end of your bridging rainbow. To find activities see page 136 in your Brownie Handbook.
1. Find out about Junior Girl Scouting.
2. Do a Junior Girl Scout Activity.
3. Do something with a Junior Girl Scout or a Junior Girl Scout troop or group.
4. Share what you learn about Junior Girl Scouting with a Brownie or Daisy Girl Scouts.
5. Plan and do a summer Girl Scout activity.
Juniors bridging to Cadette Girl Scouts
You can begin to bridge to Cadette Girl Scouts in your last year as a Junior Girl Scout. As a Cadette Girl Scout, you will enjoy many of the same types of activities you did in Junior Girl Scouting, but as a Cadette Girl Scout you have more freedom, greater opportunities, and more responsibilities. Juniors will need to complete six activities in order to receive their Bridge to Cadette Girl Scouts. To find complete descriptions of the requirements see page 201 in your Junior Handbook.
1. Find out about Cadette Girl Scouts.
2. Find out about GirlSports or other council sponsored opportunities for Cadette Girl Scouts.
Participate in one where Cadette Girl Scouts are also taking part.
l3. Complete an activity out of the Cadette Girl Scout Handbook or the Interest Projects for Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts.
4. Participate in a service project or a camping/hiking trip with Cadette Girl Scouts.
5. Do something with a Cadette Girl Scout or Cadette Girl Scout troop.
6. Help plan your bridging ceremony.
Cadettes bridging to Senior Girl Scouts
Cadette Girl Scouts will need to complete eight activities in order to receive their Bridge to Senior Girl Scouts award. To find complete descriptions of the requirements see page 142 in your Cadette Girl Scout Handbook.
1. Find out about Senior Girl Scouting.
2. Read two sections in the A Resource Book for Senior Girl Scouts.
3. Do a an activity with Senior Girl Scouts.
4. Help others learn about Cadette Girl Scouting.
5. Find out about the Apprentice Trainer, Leader-In-Training (LIT), Counselor-In Training (CIT), and destinations.
6. Conduct a leadership activity with a group of younger Girl Scouts.
7. Design your own bridging ceremony.
8. Plan and participate in a summer Girl
Scout activity.
