Service Mark Guidelines
The Girl Scout Service Mark
The Girl Scout service mark is composed of two parts, the symbol (the trefoil with three profiles) and the logotype (the words "Girl Scouts," along with the registration mark). Both parts of the service mark MUST be used together.
The service mark may never be redrawn, or modified in any way. The logotype must always be in the same proportion to the symbol. A bit-matted or artist's rendering of the service mark is not permitted. Use of the symbol without the logotype and the use of the service mark as a design element is not permitted.
The Service Mark Configurations
The horizontal service mark is the preferred version for usage, but when space limitations dictate, the use of the more compact version, the stacked service mark is acceptable.
Positive and reverse configurations of the service mark offer flexibility. When the service mark is used on a white or pale background, use the positive mark; when the service mark is used on a dark background, use the reverse version.
Correct Color Usage
For print, the preferred color treatment for the Girl Scout service mark is the new Girl Scout green (Pantone #334c or Pantone green uncoated). The service mark can also be printed in the new blue (Pantone #541c or 294u). When printing a two-color piece that does not have Girl Scout green, blue, or black in your palette, print the service mark in the darkest color.
For the Web, green, blue or black is required. Please try to get as close as possible to the Pantone colors listed for print.
Service Mark Placement and Use
A minimum airspace of one-third the width of the symbol must be allowed on all sides. If space is limited, reduce the size of the service mark.
In print, a minimum size for the horizontal Girl Scout mark is 1 1/16" in width which includes the symbol, the logotype, and the registration mark, and 3/4" in width for the stacked version of the service mark.
For the Web, we prefer that you use the service mark as an identity and the size should reflect that.
Use of the Service Mark with Other Logos
When placing the service mark near another logo, be sure to use a version close in size and aspect to that of the other logo. The service marks should be placed side by side and not one above the other.
Incorrect Use of the Service Mark
The service mark may not be used as part of a design or be the subject of a wallpaper pattern. When using the service mark on a Web site, it may not flash, blink, or change colors in any way; it may not be used as an icon or button, and it may not be animated.
The Tagline
Per Girl Scouts USA Interim Graphic Guidelines from December 2007, there is currently no tagline. The previous tagline, "Where Girls Grow Strong," is obsolete. However, you may use up any previously printed materials with the tagline.
If you have any questions about using the Girl Scout Service Mark, please e-mail Public Relations Manager Mary Ellen Hettinger.
